What is the Entertainment Technology Center at Carnegie Mellon?

According to their website, “The concept behind the Center . . . is to have technologists and fine artists work together on projects that produce artifacts that are intended to entertain, inform, inspire, or otherwise affect an audience/guest/player/ participant.” In other words, the Center uses robots, videogames, and other technologies to teach and entertain.

This is a unique tour in that you will have a chance to hear an overview from a Wharton alumna, who is currently in the program, before going on a guided tour of the building. The ETC is a spectacle tour complete with technologies from past, present and future. This is also the best time of year to attend the event because the students are approaching the semester end so they have plenty to showcase from their current projects. At least one project is planning to spin off into a Pittsburgh company in May.

Come take a behind the scenes look at one the industries that was hailed as 'recession proof' for its rising profits.

Here’s the website. Check it out yourself.

Tour begins promptly at 6:00pm and will conclude by 7:30pm.

Where: CMU’s ETC, 700 Technology Drive, Pgh 15219
Parking Instructions: Use the newly-constructed multi-level parking garage across from the Sunoco facility. Please note that there is a significant amount of construction near the ETC building.

Price: No Cost.

You will see the entertainment industry in a way you haven't thought about before and your kids will enjoy talking to the robots and checking out the videogames so bring them along too!
